Brookdale Senior Living Raises More than $68,000 for Alzheimer’s Association

MILWAUKEE, WI 9/12/2011

The Milwaukee support office of Brookdale Senior Living, one of the nation’s leading owners and providers of high-quality senior living communities, recently raised $68,853.28, benefiting the southeastern Wisconsin chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at its second annual golf outing.

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, 136 employees and vendors from Brookdale Senior Living participated in the company’s second annual golf outing held at Morningstar Golf Club in Waukesha, Wis. A variety of fundraising opportunities, such as golf-related contests, a silent auction, and a raffle contributed additional funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. An additional 44 golfers participated in this year’s outing, which surpassed last year’s fundraising by nearly $30,000.

"We are extremely grateful to our associates, vendors and all those who contributed to the event’s increased success this year," said Scott Ranson, chief information officer for Brookdale Senior Living. "The increase in golfers and funds raised demonstrates the amount of people committed to eradicating this powerful disease. The rising success of the outing and the growing contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association motivates us even more."

"The Brookdale team in Milwaukee is what I call a "game changer" for our mission," said Tom Hlavacek, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin. "For example, here at the chapter our education and training manager oversees training programs which reach over 10,000 people every year. Our training programs improve the quality of care, increase community awareness, and equip individuals with the diagnosis and caregivers with coping tools and strategies. Brookdale’s golf outing raises in one day the equivalent of the salary for one year for our education manager, plus scholarships for families to attend trainings."

Hlavacek continued, "In addition, it introduces our mission and work to the golfers, many of whom are dealing with dementia in their families and don’t know about our services. Brookdale has made a huge impact on our ability to serve our constituents and achieve our mission."

Held at Morningstar Golf Course, the outing touched a personal note for the owner of the course, Jim Frutchey, Jr.

"My wife, Judi, is a victim of this horrible disease and is deep into stage seven," said Frutchey. "I deal with her care on a daily basis and have seen with my own eyes the devastating and debilitating effects it has on her and our entire family. As the owner of Morningstar, I am pleased and proud to be a part of Brookdale’s contribution in the fight against Alzheimer’s."

Brookdale’s Clare Bridge communities focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. These and other select communities offer secure environments and programs for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in which trained staff provide memory care services and help ensure Daily Moments of Success for residents of Brookdale communities.
